1.) Character Name: Remus John Lupin
2.) Age: 15
3.) Sex: Male
4.) House and year: Gryffindor, 5th year
5.) Blood purity: Half-blood
6.) Appearance: Reaching about 5'8", Remus isn't terribly tall. His shaggy, light-brown hair falls just past his chin, often covering his thoughtful brown eyes. He's pale, some weeks moreso than others, and often has shadowy bags under his eyes. Remus usually wears jumpers and long-sleeved shirts, which cover his scratches and keep him from catching a chill. He's particulary fond of corduroys and khakis, but he'd much rather look like a hippie than an office worker. So, he counters his argyle jumpers and khakis with long, straggly hair and a string of love beads on his wrist. As far as wizard wear is concerned, he much prefers earth-tones and linen-blend robes; his fine black school robes make him look paler and peakier than ever. However, even in dress robes, he refuses to give up his favorite tan loafers, which he dons whenever he's not in sandals.
7.) Wand: 14 inches, ash, bendy, core of quicksilver. Wand-buying was an interesting and embarrassing experience for 11-year-old Remus. All of the unicorn hair wands backfired dangerously, the dragon heartstrings proved too powerful and difficult to control, and every phoenix tailfeather wand sputtered uselessly. After an entire afternoon of swishing, waving, and minor explosions, Mr Ollivander announced that there must be something unfortuate and peculiar about poor little Lupin. Of course, he was correct. After learning that the boy was a werewolf (which could have saved much time, had it been revealed from the get-go), the wandmaker decided to construct a wand from unfamiliar materials. He'd heard of medieval Italian wizards trying wands with quicksilver cores, but they'd always proved far too unpredictable for most wizards; the quicksilver wands' functionality depended far too much on the everchanging moon cycles. But of course, Ollivander's genius came to the rescue, and a bendy, ash wand with an ounce of quicksilver inside worked perfectly for a young werewolf.
Remus's wand works best at Transfiguration, and he certainly excelled in that class. However, due to personal reasons, he took a liking to Defence against the Dark Arts. By his dedication alone, he nearly rose to the top of his class in that subject.
8.) Likes: Defence against the Dark Arts, History of Magic, and Muggle Studies; Remus likes both active, hands-on classes and the social sciences. He loves music and attending concerts. He periodically tries to teach himself guitar, but he just never has the patience or discipline to master it. Growing up with a Muggle mother gave him an appreciation for Muggle wireless, where he developed a love for both the Beatles, Pink Floyd, and blues and psychedelic rock. A lonely childhood taught him that books can be best friends, and he never lost his love for reading, even after developing true, human friendships. At 15 he picked up Jack Kerouac's On The Road, and ever since he's fancied himself something of a bohemian, wayward soul. Mainly due to Beat literature, friends that were "bad influences," and the physical and mental pain of being a werewolf, Remus cultivated an appreciation for cannabis.
9.) Dislikes: Potions, Astronomy, and any class that includes lots of careful measurements and long periods of waiting. Socially speaking, Remus strongly dislikes pureblood supremacists, religious fanatics, and politicians. During his teenage years, he felt particularly at odds with the establishment as a whole. However, he was always too eager to please to be too much of a rebel. Even when someone's beliefs strongly counter his own, he still tries to win their personal favor with smiles and politeness. Simply put, Remus hates being disliked, especially for things he can help (i.e., unlike being a werewolf.)
10.) Quirks: Remus spontaneously transforms into a murderous beast when the moon is full.
11.)Family: His father, John Lupin, is a journalist. His rookie position was a contributing sports writer for the Daily Prophet, from which he slowly moved up the ranks. However, when his political column began a trend of advocating stricter regulations on werewolves, his career and life took a turn for the worst. During Remus's teenage years, Mr Lupin worked as assisstant editor for the Magical Times (or "the Times," as it's popularly called), a liberal, independent publication.
Mrs Julia Lupin is a Muggle, making her son a half-blood. She works as a seamstress, doing alterations at a popular costume shop in nearby Brighton. Her often came in handy at home, with a growing werewolf about. She remains very informed about the wizarding world, especially with magical advancements in healing.

After fifteen minutes of scratching, tapping, and rattling, the sleek barn owl finally swept through the opened window. It shook the heavy envelope unceremoniously on the pale, sleepy boy's head, then pecked his arm until it got its payment. The boy had been having a particularly good sleep, considering it was the only one he'd had for days. Even after a good ten hours of slumber, his eyes still had shadows under them.
Shooing the owl away, he finally got a proper look at his envelope. It was addressed to "Mr R Lupin, Second Storey Bedroom, 12 Poplar Lane, Hove, East Sussex." Immediately, Remus Lupin's heart began beating wildly. Although he'd tried so hard not to get his hopes up, he'd been waiting for a letter like this ever since his eleventh birthday. But this was too good to be true. He wasn't going to believe it until he read the letter....
There it was. He'd been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He hadn't had to plead his case before a committee, he didn't need to request special permission from the Headmaster, and he didn't need a healing examination. He'd gotten a letter just like everyone else.
A huge, involuntary smile spread over his face. Suddenly, he didn't feel so tired. He just wanted to scream, shout, cry, run, and tell everyone that he was going to Hogwarts. Naturally, his parents would have to discuss certain details with the school staff, but at least they hadn't had to petition his way in. He was going to Hogwarts, just like everyone else. Laughing with wild relief, Remus exictedly paced around his bedroom. His parents would have all sorts of questions and concerns, and he didn't feel like hearing those right now. In about an hour, he'd rush down and show his parents the letter. Until then, Remus was going to enjoy being a normal kid for once.
